Umberto Menghi opened Giardino Restaurant last summer, the Tuscan-inspired restaurant is located on Hornby Street, really close to his last Vancouver restaurant, Il Giardino. This was my first visit to his new location, and I have to say I was more than impressed.
I had the best beef carpaccio I’ve ever tasted – tenderloin carpaccio with grated egg white, capers, & honey mustard dressing. The tenderloin melts in your mouth, and the acidity of the dressing cuts through the richness of the dish perfectly.
The creamy burrata with carpaccio of zucchini, cherry tomato, baby arugula & pomegranate was fresh and rich at the same time.
Slow oven-braised veal ossobuco alla milanese with saffron risotto was over the top – flavourful and huge portion!
Hand-Cut grilled provimi veal chop with pommes lyonnais and shallot jus was also incredible. Tender meat with an amazing sauce.
The service was impeccable all throughout my dinner, not only from the wait staff but Mr. Menghi himself was out and about, keeping a watchful eye on the restaurant.
I had a great first meal, and I can’t wait to return.
