It’s no secret that I love Hawaii – I visit every year and I’ve fallen in love with the warmth, the scuba diving, the people, and of course the food! I was quite excited with my friend Claire (also a Hawaii fan) found out that SIP Lounge is running a Hawaiian themed popup this month by Loco Ono.
Amber joined us for the evening and we started off with a round of “Road to Hana” cocktails – grey goose la poire vodka, st. germain liqueur, lemon juice, simple syrup, peychaud’s bitters, champagne. Very tasty.
First food up was the Chicken & Ube Waffles – buttermilk fried chicken on sweet purple yam waffles, served with maple syrup and “Ma’s bbq sauce” – very very good! I love this Hawaiian twist on chicken and waffles.
Next up the Kalua Pork Mac & Cheese – three cheese mac, truffle oil, topped with kalua pork, gremolata, parm & arugula. I’m not a huge pasta fan but this was quite good.
And no Hawaiian feast is complete without loco moco! The Loco Ono Loco Moco – ground beef & bacon patty on rice, fried egg, gravy, crispy onions. This was excellent.
I’ve heard they will be extending the popup into March – go check it out!
