Every Thursday the dinner special at Forage is pork. Usually it’s pork belly (which is amazing!) but they do change it up. Welbert, one of the chefs at Forage (and also a very talented photographer) let me know earlier today that tonight was porchetta night – so of course I dropped everything and ran right over. And by “drop everything and ran right over” I mean I made a reservation for 7 p.m. for Amber, Athena and myself 😉
We started the evening off right with a glass of bubbly – we are classy ladies after all! Thanks Forage!
And the roasted Golden Ears cheddar pan bread with spicy honey – always a favourite, the best appetizer in the West End for sure.
Athena is a vegetarian, so she wasn’t about to partake in the porchetta; she ordered the grilled kale salad with Agassiz hazelnuts, brie and honey dressing and caramelized apples. She did let me steal a bite though.
This is my favourite kale salad in Vancouver, every element is well executed. The apples are even caramelized with rosemary – so good.
Amber and I shared the porchetta, which came with house made green garlic spaetzle, spring salad and pickled devil’s club. I’m pretty sure this was the first time I’ve tried pickled devil’s club, it was delicious. The pork was incredibly flavourful and the crispy skin was done perfectly! I do wish there was a little bit more meat in the meat to fat ratio because the meat and stuffing were phenomenal! Forage sources the majority of their ingredients from local farmers and foragers. Tonight’s pork was from a local farm that pasture raises their pork; no factory farming. Pasture-raised pork just tastes better, it’s nothing like the typical pork you’d buy in a regular grocery store.
We also shared the new Ocean Wise albacore tuna and spring shoot salad with curry oil, pea raita and raw honey dressing. This tasted like spring on a plate! Pea shoots, fresh peas, foraged greens, and fresh sashimi style tuna. Delicious.
Another great evening at Forage!
