Continuing on the trend of taking my mom out for seafood while she’s in town, my aunt and I took her to Kishimoto on Commercial Drive. It was very busy as usual, and we had to wait a while before getting a seat. We were able to sit at the bar after waiting about 20 minutes, and then about 15 minutes into our meal a table became available so we moved over to the table.
We started off with the crispy beet salad, which is a green salad with a really nice dressing topped off with crispy fried beet strings, so good!
We had sockeye salmon and albacore tuna sashimi which were both very fresh and tasty. I love how Kishimoto serves their sashimi on big blocks of ice wrapped in thinly sliced daikon radish.
We had spicy agadashi tofu:
The nasu dengaku (miso glazed eggplant) is my favourite, it’a “must try” if you find yourself at this restaurant.
We ordered salmon oshisushi, asparagus oshisushi and a couple other rolls:
The oshisushi was so delicious, perfectly seared and seasoned, requires no soy sauce. The “OMG roll” (avocado, crunchy tempura bits and spicy sauce) is also really good, great flavour and crunch!
The restaurant continued to be really busy and you could tell they didn’t want us to linger, they brought us our bill without asking if we wanted to look at a dessert menu and then when we were finishing our drinks they asked us if we could move to the bar so they could seat other people at the table. We just left and decided to go for dessert at La Casa Gelato instead.
I taste-tested a few new flavours of ice cream (including kimchi!) but decided on the mango jackfruit which was amazing!
