Tuna Tataki at Cactus Club

Posted on Posted in Uncategorized

Two Cactus Club posts in a row? Yup! I went out to Coquitlam tonight to take a friend out for her belated birthday dinner. We showed up around 7 p.m., it was quite busy and we didn’t have a reservation, so we had to wait about 30 minutes for our table. We had a lot to catch up on though so the extra chatting time was no real issue.

I had the tuna tataki for dinner (seared Ocean Wise™ albacore tuna, papaya slaw, pine nuts, yuzu vinaigrette) – the tuna was great, very fresh and perfectly seasoned and seared. The papaya slaw, mango and avocado combination was fantastic. The yuzu dressing was on point (of course, I’m a sucker for yuzu anything!) The only disappointing thing was that the dish came with a little bit of tobiko (flying fish roe), which was a bit fishy tasting, plus the sustainability of tobiko is currently under review and is not currently considered a sustainable seafood choice. I would absolutely order this dish again, but I would request no tobiko.

For dessert my friend and I split the chocolate peanut butter crunch bar with Tahitian vanilla ice cream, caramel sauce, crunchy chocolate pearls. So good!
