I was attending a meeting at the National Nikkei Heritage Centre today, so some friends and I went for lunch at the Hi Genki restaurant in Burnaby. Hi Genki is run by Fujiya, one of Vancouver’s favourite Japanese food stores. The atmosphere here is nothing to write about, it’s basically a cafeteria attached to the National Nikkei Heritage Centre, but the food is really good. It’s not a spot for sushi, they serve Japanese comfort food.
I had the spicy chicken karaage donburi, one of their specialities and one of my favourites:
If you’re in Burnaby and looking for some good Japanese comfort food this is a great place to try. You can also pop into the Nikkei Museum after lunch.
